Zone was an exhibition of photographs at The Fremantle Arts Centre as part of the 2004 Fotofreo Photography Festival. The images were taken from the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in the city of Pripyat and surrounding villages in 2003.
The exclusion zone is a vast area of land around the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station that has been deemed uninhabitable ever since the reactor meltdown in April 26, 1986. The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone is now open to tourism and is a big attraction to those with an interest in 'dark tourism'. Tourist numbers are increasing, with the site attracting over 10 000 visitors last year.
